Food, Fun and Fireworks!

Looking for something fun to do in Savannah this 4th of July weekend?  Tired of the same old burgers and sparklers routine?  Check out these top 10 activities going on in Savannah for the 4th:

Gnate the Gnat
10.  Savannah Sand Gnats vs Rome:  Come watch Savannah’s Minor League Baseball Team play at Grayson Stadium in Daffin Park.  Games are Monday July 4th from 6pm-9pm, Tuesday July 5th from 7pm-10pm, and Wednesday July 6th from 7pm-10pm.  For more info call 912-351-9150 or visit them online.

8.  July 4th at Tricentennial Park:  Listen to a reading of declaration of independence then learn about the 1779 battle of Savannah and see the exhibit at the Savannah History Museum.  Take a tour of the battlefield with a Revolutionary War soldier, watch a musket demonstration and have fun on the steam train rides at the Georgia State Railroad Museum.  July 4th, 9am-5pm.  For more info call 912-651-6840.

7.  “Celebration of Our Independence”:  The Savannah Winds, Armstrong’s community wind symphony, presents their annual patriotic concert featuring the music of John Phillip Sousa, Irving Berlin, Lee Greenwood.   There will be narration by senior military officers, and WTOC’s Bill Cathcart will be this year’s Master of Ceremonies.  Our nation’s colors will be presented by the US Army 3rd ID honor guard plus recognition of the Chatham County Veteran of Year.  At AASU, Sunday July 3rd from 3-5pm, $12 advanced general admission, $10 advanced senior, students, children and military.  For more info call 912-344-2556.

6.  July 4th Weekend at Old Fort Jackson:  Experience the history and life of soldiers stationed here during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Civil War.  Get hands on fun as you try on period uniforms, participate in an artillery crew and watch cannon and musket demonstrations.  Fun for the whole family!  July 2-4, 9am to 5pm.  For more info call 912-232-3945.


5.  Celebrate Independence Day in style on the Savannah River Queen and the Georgia Queen Riverboats for an hour and a half cruise.  Enjoy music, and watch the River Street fireworks display.  Snacks and drinks are available for purchase.  July 4th, boarding starts at 8:30pm, sail at 9pm, return 1030pm.  Adult $29.95/child $23.95 for more info call 1-800-786-6404 or visit them online.

4.  If you like your 4th of July on the sandy and salty side, come to Tybee's Independence Day Fireworks show July 3rd launched from Tybee's Pier and Pavilion.  The show is free and the view spectacular!  For more info call 912-786-5444 or visit them online.

3.  Get your swing on!  The 6th annual patriotic Big Band Salute at the Savannah Theater is a one show only deal!  Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox orchestra plus the Savannah Theater singers will perform to honor our American military heroes with a patriotic big band salute.  A portion of the proceeds will go towards the next phase of Savannah’s WWII monument on River Street.  July 4th, 6pm, $30 admission.  For ticket info call 912-547-3196 or visit them online.

2.  Savannah may be best known for our Historic Downtown.  The Great American Weekend on River Street features a wide variety of artisans selling unique works of art that range from simple crafts to fine art. Munch on Savannah Popcorn's kettle corn and keep cool with Repicci's Italian ices.  And when you're ready to eat, there are plenty of tasty restaurants to choose from along River Street.
